(Gen 2:19) And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. KJV
Notice how God just let Adam have his way to be creative and give names to all that He has formed from the ground. Man indeed is delegated with power and authority. In this example passage, it is the power to create names. And whatsoever the name given, that was the name thereof. This is an example of God’s delegation of autonomous authority. He delegated that authority to man and He is not ready to supplant man’s decisions with His own. He delegated that authority and He respects that authority, He gives autonomy to that authority. Whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. It was final and binding.
And so God has given Adam the free hand to name every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air that He has formed. But that’s not the only authority that God has given to man. And it is fairly obvious that God has given us a free hand to run our own lives, to the extent that others think there is no God because God does not interfere with their lives. So they say, “if God is all powerful and all sovereign, why can’t He just make my problems go away?” Or “Why can’t He just come down here and fix all the problems in the world!”
God has given to Man the earth to rule and subdue, and with it goes also the responsibility to manage his affairs and all situations as a result of his business with the earth and everything in it including his fellow men. But when things go wrong, people tend to blame God for the mess that they brought upon themselves. God has given to man the authority, and with it goes also the responsibility. Whatever we decide, whatever we do, so it shall be. If your teenage child went on drinking and then drove his motorcycle, don’t blame God if he never made it home.
Get a lesson from that passage “whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.” We have a free hand upon this earth and we ought to be responsible for our actions. That is why it is important to receive instruction from the Word of God, because after that we have taken action, the results are irreversible.
