Born By the Word

This was asked in one of my discussion groups in Facebook: How is one born again? The proponent of that question was swift to answer. He said, we don't know. But it is clear from Scripture: Jas 1:18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. and 1Pe 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. And they also speak a lot about regeneration so I looked up "regeneration" in my Bible and found this verse: Tit 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Notice the phrase "by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Spirit." This immediately tells me that regeneration is separate and distinct from the ministry of the Holy Spirit which is renewing. I believe regeneration is a ministry ...

The Ministry of the Word

The ministry of the Word is an all important principle that every Christian should take to heart. In the book of Acts we read: Act 6:4  But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. But what is ministry of the Word? It is summarized in Psa 107:20. Psa 107:20   He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. And so the whole ministry of the Word, the purpose for which it was sent was SALVATION! The Word is able to do that because the Word is powerful. Rom 1:16  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. Heb 4:12  For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword , piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Ecc 8:4   Where the word of a ki...

The Spirit of the Word

There are some familiar phrases that we use where the word spirit is used to refer to the essence or purpose of a thing or an activity or program, like when we say; in the spirit of sportsmanship. It is really not referring to the sports itself but it refers to the purpose or objective of the sports activity, which is generally accepted as, to build friendship and good relations between the participants. When a person says, in the spirit of peace or, in the spirit of love, we normally take it as referring to the intentions of that person. So when we use the word spirit in this manner, we basically are talking about our heart, our desire and intentions. When a person says, in the spirit of love, what he is saying basically is that his desire and intentions are for the purposes of love. So he is basically talking about his heart, his desires, and his intentions. When we read the word of God, it is the very thing that we should seek for. We should seek for the spirit of His words. What ...

The Parable of the Sower

Matthew 13: 1 The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side. 2 And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore. 3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; 4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: 5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: 6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. 7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: 8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. 9 Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. 18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. 19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it ...

Power of the Tongue

This is a transcript of our lesson during our group chat Bible study in Facebook last Friday 2011.01.14. If you wish to join the Bible study, catch us on the following times. Just search for the Life BS Group. Bible study schedule: Fridays, 5:30pm (GMT +03:00) Sundays, 7:30pm (GMT +03:00)  Here now was the lesson: Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits. It says, death and life are in the power of the tongue. A common belief is that words are just words.. and people have grown into that belief that is why most people are never careful with what they say. We know that we can use words to hurt others because we have been hurt by others also just with words. So, words are not just words. And the Bible tells us that life and death are in the power of the tongue. Quite surprising huh? And more over, the person himself will eat the fruits thereof. Basically, the Bible's teaching is this: when we speak blessing...

Take It Home

(Heb 4:12) For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Notice how it says, dividing asunder of soul and spirit.. and then it goes to say: thoughts and intents of the heart.. Dividing the soul and the spirit is diving a man's carnal intents, satisfying the soul, may include pride or ego; and spirit meaning those that are pure and pertain to God.. It is actually a self check verse. Using the word of God for ourselves to check the thoughts and intents of our hearts. We may, and sometimes I do get emotionally affected and get angry over bad doctrine and hate the person altogether. And so the challenge that God places upon us is to hate that bad doctrine but spare the person. Segregate the soul from the spirit.. we have to take home something to God from every situation, from every person... al...

Exploring I Corinthians 2 Part 1

1Co 2:1-2   And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.  (2)   For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. It’s a bit ironic here how Paul says he did not come with excellency of speech. Judging from his letters, he is an eloquent speaker. He has an excellent way with words. And we can expect that because he is a learned man. What Paul is saying here is that, he did not deliver the testimony of God with flowery, convincing words. He spoke the message as a faithful messenger of the Gospel, adding nothing, excluding nothing. And he delivered it as simple as Jesus Christ crucified. And if there was any convincing required of the listeners, it was done not with words but with a demonstration of the Spirit and of power.   1Co 2:3-4   And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.  (4)   And my speech and my p...

Pastor Chris Lectures

"Guard your heart with all diligence (Proverbs 43:23). Be careful what you listen to. When you stop listening to the voice of God, you start making the wrong decisions (Romans 8:14). Don’t expose yourself to just any kind of information. The information you allow in, will determine the state of your heart. Remember, your life will only reveal the information you have on the inside. Let your spirit always remain under the influence of the Word of God". "The Word of God is the answer to all of man’s challenges and life’s crises. It encompasses all the things that you will ever need in your life. It is the only prerequisite for a successful and victorious life. Pay attention to God’s Word, to do what it says and to enjoy all the benefits that have been made available to you in it". "Choose your words carefully; speak faith and not fear. Don’t say a thing just because that is how the situation seems or what everyone else is saying. Stand firm on God’s Word until ...

The Principle of Confession

Isa 33:24 And the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick.. Joe 3:10 .. let the weak say, I am strong. Mat 21:21 .. if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. Pro 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue.. Rom 10:10 .. with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. The Word of God is given to us for a purpose. We ought to put them to good use. Be bold, be confident. Do not give a foothold to the devil. Fight the good fight of faith, confess His Words!

Breaking the Strongholds - Joshua 1:8

(Jos 1:8) This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. ESV It may occur to some that I may be preaching so hard against materialism. But we need to digest this thing so that it gets deep into our spirit, it gets into our sub-conscious and become our natural way of thought. Joshua 1:8 is a very popular verse and I believe it is nowadays being misused. It is really a "come on" for new believers. It is a very attractive verse because of the promise of prosperity and success. And indeed it has been used by many Churches to attract people to God. And so this very same verse can be used by Satan to deceive many. The Scripture is all pure and all true. But Satan can use this verse so that you become focused on the prosperity part and the success part. The true focus of this ...
