(Heb 4:12) For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Notice how it says, dividing asunder of soul and spirit.. and then it goes to say: thoughts and intents of the heart..
Dividing the soul and the spirit is diving a man's carnal intents, satisfying the soul, may include pride or ego; and spirit meaning those that are pure and pertain to God..
It is actually a self check verse. Using the word of God for ourselves to check the thoughts and intents of our hearts.
We may, and sometimes I do get emotionally affected and get angry over bad doctrine and hate the person altogether. And so the challenge that God places upon us is to hate that bad doctrine but spare the person.
Segregate the soul from the spirit.. we have to take home something to God from every situation, from every person... always looking at those things of the spirit which are pure that we may take them home to God.
