Corinthians At Supper

1Co 11:20-22

"When you come together, it is not the Lord's supper that you eat. For in eating, each one goes ahead with his own meal. One goes hungry, another gets drunk. What! Do you not have houses to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I commend you in this? No, I will not."

The Corinthians must have celebrated the Lord ’s Supper the Filipino ‘bring your own baon’ style. And it appears that the Filipino ‘barkadahan’ style is also practiced by them. The Corinthian church must have been divided in factions, each to his own group. And naturally, those that are of the same socio-economic status would group together. So during meal time, them that have brought food and drinks would be full and even drunk, while others who may not be well off economically even to bring their own food go hungry. Paul is telling them, this is not the way to eat the Lord ’s Supper. Indeed it was very detestable. Paul rebukes them, “Do you despise the Church of God and humiliate those who have nothing?”

This should be a lesson to us Church. And not only during worship services and fellowship, but let us also look into the needs of others, especially of our brothers and sisters in the faith and share with them those things that we have received in abundance. By this I believe that our Father in heaven will be pleased and bless us all the more.

A New Creation

2Co 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. A very simple yet so profound truth that we must not forget: we are new creations in Christ. We are not the person that we were before we came to know Christ. We are a new person, a new creature in Christ. This is very foundational and very, very important. Many Christians tend to dwell on the Cross. They stay there and never want to be removed from there because the Cross meant the forgiveness of sins. And that is true. But the very purpose of the Cross was not the forgiveness of sins, but rather, to condemn sin. A Christian is not a sinner saved by grace as some denominations teach. And that phrase, sinner saved by grace, is never really found in the Bible. A Christian is not a sinner. We were sinners before we became Christians, but when we became Christians, we put on the new man. Religion would tell you that you are not worthy, how that you are ...

The Operation of God

Col 2:12  Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. The word operation was translated from the Greek:   G1753 ἐνέργεια energeia en-erg'-i-ah From G1756; efficiency (“energy”): - operation, strong, (effectual) working. This gives us an idea of what goes on in the spirit realm when a person comes to Christ. The Scripture says, we are risen with Him through the faith of the operation of God... the energy... the effectual working of God.  Here is what happens in the spirit realm, believers are risen from the dead by this energy - the effectual working of God. And it is made to pass through the faith of this energy. Now, this clearly tells us that this is not Man's faith, it is God's faith.  Notice the first part of this Scripture. It says, Buried with Him in baptism. This is where Man's faith is in operation. Baptism is the answer of a good conscience toward God. The a...

God Is

And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.  (1Co 2:3-5) There is so much theology going around in these last days. Maybe you can find thousands or maybe hundreds of thousands of different, sometimes clashing schools of thought even within the Christian faith. But the truth is not in any of them. Most people believe that because they have a Ph.D in theology, they already know the truth, and they have assumed office as authorities in the faith toward God.  The believer in Christ must be well able to discern which one is of God and which one is not. If you are confident in your faith because it is backed up by volumes and volumes of technical writings, then that faith is not founded on Christ. Maybe you've come to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, but belief and fait...
